How To Achieve the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy
The Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy documents a student's ability to communicate effectively in two languages. Native and heritage speakers of a language are may use the Seal to demonstrate the ability to read and write comfortably in the native or heritage language. Second language learners who have reached an advanced level of language learning can demonstrate the ability to produce intermediate level speech and writing in the second language.
Some colleges and universities will recognize the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy in either their admissions or credit assessment process. For more information about the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy, visit the Nebraska Department of Education World Language website.
How to Apply for the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy
Step 1: Document your fluency in English.
English can be demonstrated with the equivalent of three completed academic years of high school English or a placement test score.
Step 2: Document your fluency in a language other than English.
You may independently choose to register for the AAPPL assessment for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish to be administered by NEBLI. The cost is $30.

Review carefully all of the testing materials you receive in an email from NEBLI.
Step 3: Apply for Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy.
Students will use the online application form provided by the Nebraska Department of Education. Be ready with:
A digital picture of your documentation for proficiency in English.
A digital picture of your documentation for proficiency in a language other than English.
Your world language/ESOL/ELL/guidance counselor's full name and email.
Your parent/guardian's email.
